(Sao Paulo, SoloAzar Exclusive).- The SIGMA Americas -BiS Expo which was held in Sao Paulo beginning on the 14th of June, was a very important event for the brasilian and Latam market, and many important companies presented their products there. SoloAzar interviewed exclusively Emily Micallef, Events COO at SiGMA Group, as organizers of this event. “We’re very grateful for such a warm welcome from the gaming community in Brazil, and indeed, worldwide”, she said.

How was the experience of the Joint between SIGMA and BIS?

Fantastic, it was a pleasure to work closely with such a well-respected and professional team on our first expo for the LatAm market. We’re looking forward to continuing to build on this success in 2024 - the sky’s the limit!

How did the event develop during these 5 days?

While there’s always room for improvement we have received positive feedback and support from our delegates, exhibitors, and speakers. I would say this event certainly exceeded our expectations. In light of such a positive reception we plan to hold 3 additional networking events in Brazil next year - equivalent in style to our well known iGatherings.

What changes were made with respect to previous years, which marked an increase in terms of its physical size and the number of visitors and exhibitors?

While we always keep certain hallmarks of quality throughout all our events, working alongside BIS - an experienced organisation which knows the LatAm market inside out - certainly contributed to the quality of content and experience we were able to provide to our attendees.

How was the response of the people before the show started, during and after the event?

For many attendees this was their first introduction to a SiGMA event. The response, however, was extremely positive with one delegate claiming to have done more business at SiGMA Americas than at another well known global gaming event. We expect to welcome many back next year.

What else  do you think needs to be done for the Senate to regulate the Brazilian market, in order to grow locally and internationally?

Regulators need to hold more discussions with operators, this will be key to creating a long lasting regulatory framework that is achievable and sustainable for operators to implement and follow. It will be crucial to include constructive input from the sector, either through forums or by engaging  representatives for the operator community to work hand-in-hand with regulators, thus ensuring regulations work for the market as a whole.

Once land-based and online gambling regulations are achieved, what would be the main advantages for the revival of the sector in the country?

The revival of the gambling sector in Brazil, with the establishment of land-based and online gambling regulations, brings forth significant advantages for the country. Firstly, it presents a tremendous economic opportunity, with the potential to attract both domestic and international investors, boosting job creation and driving economic growth. Secondly, the regulated gambling industry can generate substantial tax revenues, contributing to public funding for vital sectors such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure development. Additionally, a well-regulated gambling sector can effectively combat illegal gambling activities, ensuring consumer protection and fostering a safer and more responsible gambling environment. By embracing this sector, Brazil can capitalise on its potential as a thriving hub for entertainment, tourism, and leisure, enhancing its overall competitiveness in the global market.

This also puts Brazil in a position of strength when it comes to trade relations, enabling them to enhance connections with other continents, and beef up supply chains. They will certainly have plenty of options ahead of them when it comes to determining which entrepreneurial path they wish to tread in the future.
